How Can I help?

1.  PRAY FOR THEM
  • These children are hurting deeply and they need prayer.  The adults in their lives need prayer as well.  Pray for their families, foster families and social worker.
  • Organize an evening prayer vigil at your church for the children in foster care and in orphanages overseas.
2.  SPEAK UP
  • Make sure those around you are aware of this great need!  Share your heart with friends, family and church families so that they too will realize the huge need to care for these children.
  • Become a court appointed special advocate for a child in foster care.  Visit www.NationalCASA.org for details.
3.  PROVIDE FOR THEIR NEEDS
  • Give sacrificially to local orphan care ministries and orphanages overseas.
  • Donate supplies (i.e. laundry baskets, detergent, etc.) or money for Independent Living Program baskets to help the emancipated foster youth.
  • Organize a drive in your church to collect school supplies for children in foster care or shoes for orphans overseas.  Visit www.GainUSA.org or www.ShoesForOrphanSouls.org for details.
4.  SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT THEM
  • Wrap yourselves around families you know and in your churches that have adopted or are fostering.  Mow, baby sit, provide a meal, drive car pool...anything that gives them a break or makes parenting easier.
  • Host "baby showers" for families adopting no matter the age of the child.
  • Pray with them and tell them you appreciate what they do.
5.  PROTECT THEM FROM HARM
  • Become a foster parent or emergency foster parent.
  • Raise money to build a children's home to help remove children from the streets.  Visit www.WorldOrphans.org
6.  VISIT THEM WHERE THEY ARE
  • Take dinner to a foster group-home on a regular basis.
7.  GIVE SACRIFICIALLY TO THEM
  • Support reputable orphan care organizations on a regular basis.
  • Contribute generously to an adoptive family to help offset their costs.
8.  ENCOURAGE THEM TO PRESS ON
  • Sponsor a child, support them financially, and encourage them through your letters.  Visit www.WorldVision.org or www.Compassion.com for details.
  • Become a mentor or tutor to a teenager in a foster group-home
9.  ADOPT
  • Give a child a home through international, domestic, or foster care adoption.
  • Adopt a young adult who has aged out the of the system, but still desperately needs the love of a family.
10.  MOBILIZE YOUR CHURCH FOR THEM
  • Be a catalyst in your church for starting a sustained orphans ministry.  Check out the Home For Good 'Resources' page and 'Events' page to learn more about starting an orphan ministry in your church.
